Author: Riley Silvis As we come to a close of the 2021-2022 school year at Apollo-Ridge, it has become public news that some of our beloved teachers throughout the years have chosen to retire. Eight teachers from the elementary, middle, and high school have, after all this time, chosen to end their their time teaching. Mrs. Kathy Gray (paraprofessional), Mrs. Kathryn Higgins (elementary librarian), Mr. Daniel Barrett (middle and high school art), Mrs. Lisa Miller (8th grade reading), Mr. August Manifest (middle and high school history), Mr. Robert Desiderato (7th grade history), Mr Kenneth Reese (6th grade math), and our very own Viking Voice director, Mrs. Catherine Rogalski (12th grade English) have all been approved to retire from the Apollo-Ridge School District.
Although we are sad to see them go, all of the students and staff wish only great things for our amazing faculty that is choosing to move to new chapters in their lives. To all the retiring teachers, us students wish you the best and wouldn’t be the same without you. Thank you again we love you. “30 years ago, I had no idea where Apollo-Ridge was. It would be impossible to imagine the last 20 years of my life without the experiences and relationships that I have been fortunate to have with Apollo-Ridge people. I feel very blessed to be a part of this community.” —R. Desiderato “Over the past 33 years, I have loved working at Apollo-Ridge. The administration, board, faculty, staff, and students are wonderful, and it has been a pleasure to come to work for all of these years. Truly, it seems just like yesterday that I had my interview at A-R. I never believed my elders when they told me that time moves quickly after high school - now I understand what they tried to tell me all those years ago. It is surreal to move on from a place that has been such an integral part of my life. In closing, I will hold and cherish many dear and important memories from Apollo-Ridge for years to come.” —C. Rogalski “I have always felt very fortunate to have been a teacher at Apollo Ridge. The students, colleagues, and community have been great to be associated with.” —D. Barrett We wish them all the best!

Author: Riley Silvis On April 2nd 46 of our Latin and Spanish students attended the Appalachian Professional Language Educators’ Society (APPLES) foreign language festival at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) campus. Festival co-coordinators Dr. Christina Huhn and Dr. Marjorie Zambrano-Paff hosted this festival to bring students and staff together from different schools in the area to compete in different categories of their chosen language.
The APPLES festival includes languages such as Spanish, German, French, and (for the first year, only in the art category) Latin. These languages had the chance to compete in their academic listening, reading, and speaking skills, and their choice of culture art form. Congratulations to all the Apollo Ridge students who placed!
